The latest video released by Eidos Montreal gets into the hacking and social interaction in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. As a huge fan of hacking into computers to read emails and shutdown security networks, I felt its inclusion was essential. The video also gets into how Jensen will be able to convince NPCs to help complete objectives or persuade them into a particular action. Human Revolution releases in now less than two weeks on August 23rd. Watch the trailer below.

Development on the new zombie action RPG Dead Island has reached completion. The concept is somewhat intriguing, and I'm especially excited to check out the game's co-op mode. The dev team released a trailer showing off Dead Island's co-op along with the news of the title going gold. You can watch it, along with some screenshots to look at, below. Made by Techland and published by Deep Silver, the game releases on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in North America on September 6th.

After 4 hours with Pirates of Black Cove, I have a solid idea of what to expect from the sandbox high seas tale. The recent Paradox release combines elements of both RTS and RPGs with a lighthearted pirate world, an attractive concept. The story and world present a cartoon-styled, comedic take on the 18th century pirate setting. You play the role of a pirate captain in command of your own vessel and crew. The humor is surprisingly good, and I'm rather fond of some of the NPC and unit art design. It remains to be seen, but Pirates of Black Cove might lack depth. The world seems a bit sparse of things to do.

After 4 years in the making, Deus Ex: New Vision is finally complete and available for download. The mod remastered around 75% of the world textures in high definition. Perfect timing if you're trying to get ready for Human Revolution with another run through the original. We'll be doing a video playtest of New Vision, so look for it later in the week. Check out some more screens after the break.

Diablo II clone Drakensong Online has entered the beta stage and is now open for anyone to play. It's not like the other Drakensong games, it's a browser-based action RPG made by a different developer. I usually turn my nose to browser game, but this one is rather impressive graphics wise. The depth is clearly lacking, offering little leveling control besides weapon upgrades and abilities. But it is fun in short spurts here and there, if you miss the days of Diablo. Check it out for yourself, it's free.

Bethesda Softworks and id Software have released a new Rage trailer shedding some light on the game's plot. In a post-apocalyptic world there is plenty of chaos and lawlessness. For some time a conflict has existed between two groups: "The Authority" and "The Resistance". And although the rebels of "The Resistance" have been on the run for some time, the tide is about to turn and things are about to get a little crazy. Check out the trailer and see for yourself.

Update: New screenshots from QuakeCon added.
If you aren't yet familiar with the recently announced title Dishonored, you might want to keep an eye on it. Why? One of the lead designers on Deus Ex, Harvey Smith, is developing this new first-person action game along with the team behind Arx Fatalis and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic--Arkane Studios. Players will embody a supernatural assassin in a "retro-futuristic" world. You will be given a massive range of methods and options to go about completing your assassination missions. So much so that Arkane is calling the game a sandbox assassination simulator. Watch the team explain the concept themselves in the developer diary after the break.

For those interested in participating in the Battlefield 3 Beta, you can do so by pre-ordering your copy of the game through Origin. If you aren't familiar with the name (which happens to be a piss poor name at that), Origin is EA’s digital distribution service.
The Beta will begin in September 2011. Prior to this announcement the Beta was only available to players who bought the Medal of Honor limited edition. We are lucky enough to be involved the Battlefield 3 Alpha testing, but cannot comment on it as of now.

Breath of Fire IV, originally released on the PS1 in 2000, is set to re-release on the US PlayStation Network on August 16th. Fans of old-school JRPGs will get another chance to enjoy the game on their PS3 or PSP.
The Capcom title, which is known for doing a lot things well as opposed to great, actually released on PC a few years after the initial launch. The game stars the blue-haired Ryu who is capable of transforming into a dragon. Although one great part of the game are the beautiful, hand-drawn sprites, which are a staple of Breath of Fire IV. The environments in the game, however, are 3D.

Blizzard has revealed some news that create some very mixed reactions. First Diablo III will be online-only, unfortunately. Blizzard is following the Starcraft model where a player has to be connected to Battle.net to play single or multiplayer. Blizzard claims this is the only option to prevent cheating, as well as prevent players from abusing the next big announcement--the Auction House. Players will be able to buy and sell in-game items and weapons for real money. Blizzard will take a percentage of course, and the player that found or crafted the item will be rewarded the rest. The third big news out of Blizzard's headquarters in Irvine, California is that the game will not be modable, and the company is even saying it will be "strictly forbidden" by them.

Hard Reset is an upcoming PC exclusive cyberpunk FPS developed Flying Wild Hog, a newly formed Polish development team made up of former members of some of Warsaw's top talent: People Can Fly (Painkiller), CD Projekt RED (The Witcher series), and City Interactive (Sniper: Ghost Warrior). The team had old-school, hardcore PC gamers in mind when they developed the game, which is complete and releasing in September. You won't find regenerating health in Hard Reset, and be ready to do some level exploration--like the old days. Gamespot sat down with CEO Michal Szustak to find out why they decided to make the game a PC exclusive, and why they waited to announce the game after it was complete. Check out the new video of the game below. It shows off some nice gameplay footage. Read highlights from the Gamespot interview after the break.
