After 8 years in absence, Max Payne will hopefully make his return in Max Payne 3 by March 2012. The third installment of the series takes place 8-12 years after the events of Max Payne 2. Having left New York City, Max continues to battle his own demons abroad. Payne finds work as private security for a wealthy family in Sao Paolo, Brazil. And when dangerous gangs begin to threaten the family's safety, Max must step up and bring the pain to his enemies (and face his troubled past).
Max Payne 3 is the first game in the series not to be developed by its original developers Remedy Entertainment. New developer Rockstar Games will use the powerful Rockstar Advanced Game Engine used to create GTA IV, L.A. Noire, other Rockstar titles. The official press release says the RAGE engine "offers highly-refined gameplay, with an extensive range of realistic weaponry, an intelligent cover system and sophisticated Bullet-Time mechanics."
Some multiplayer details have also been released. Traditional multiplayer modes will be featured along with a deep leveling system, customizable load-outs, and clan support. It seems Rockstar wants to make an exceptional multiplayer experience for the game.
Max Payne 3 is scheduled for release on PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360.
On a side note, in the same press release, Max Payne 1 was announced for release on mobile devices. The game will feature full HD graphics. Bullet-time sounds interesting on a tablet.
