| Sega has revealed that Sonic Generations on the Nintendo 3DS will differ from its console counterparts. The title, which celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Sonic series, will feature environments designed exclusively for Nintendo's latest handheld. Players will be able to play as both classic and modern Sonic, just like in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. In the console version, classic Sonic features sidescrolling 2D gameplay, and modern Sonic features 2.5D gameplay. However, the 3DS Sonic Generations will be entirely sidescrolling, even with modern Sonic.
An exclusive "Special Stage" for the 3DS game will also set the versions apart. The 3DS title will release in November 2011 along with the console counterparts.
