I know I'm one of many that has an awfully negative opinion on Skyrim's user interface. The inventory was especially poor in design. It's quite annoying to sift through your gear looking for different items. A solution to this mess is already here, and it actually makes Bethesda look silly. And it's in the form of SkyUI. This mod reworks the inventory and menu system to make it significantly more accessible to locate specific items. This is one Bethesda needs to copy.

Bethesda has released the PC specific Skyrim 1.3.10.0 patch. It's really a tiny little update, but it corrects one of the game's glaring issues: support for more memory. Specifically, up to 4GB RAM can be put to use now. Skyrim actually takes more advantage of our computers! Yay!

What makes the PC so great? There is a very long list of reasons why one might choose to play a game like Skyrim on the PC versus a console. One of the most significant reasons: modability. Have you found yourself wandering Skyrim and thinking something like "I wish my buddy could run around this world with me".
Now it might actually be possible. Skyrim Online is a mod by awpsoleet that allows players to do just that. Skyrim junkies will be able to play online with their friends and run around the Nordic province together. Trade items, chat, and explore with other players. Although the mod is in the alpha stage, it offers a truly tremendous and impressive start to perhaps the ultimate Skyrim wish come true. As of now, attacking other players won't show visually, but it is working. Players appear as if they were unclothed. Aryan who is over 100 hours into his adventure, and myself (I've just reached the 30 hour mark) will be putting some significant testing into this mod. We will be doing a full report on Skyrim Online along with video for you guys to check out.

If you haven't already, now is the time to pick up the games you've been eying on GOG.com. Most of the back catalog is on sale for their 50% holiday sale, which is lasting through New Years. If you aren't familiar with it, Good Old Games (known as GOG) sells downloadable, DRM-free, classic PC games. If you're feeling nostalgic have a look at their game list. It includes some of gaming's all-time greats--and many of our favorites here at Rapid Fire Games. All of their titles are tweaked to work on modern operating systems, so you don't have to worry about compatibility issues. I've already purchased a few games myself: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Freespace 2, Planescape: Torment, and Return To Krondor.

Gran Turismo 5 is receiving an update to version 2.02 on December 21, and will have a little Christmas present thrown in with it. The Car Pack 2 DLC will also release alongside the update. It will add four cars for $3.99: R 35 GT-R 2012 Black Edition, Mini Cooper S'11, Volkswagen Golf VI R'10 and Volkswagen Scirocco R'10. Polyphony has done a tremendous job of updating, tweaking, and releasing new content for one of the greatest games the genre has seen.
The Toyota 86 GT was announced just a few weeks back, and is easily one of the most impressive cars from Toyota in a long, long time. Polyphony is including it as a little stocking stuffer for GT5 player (it's free). The car is named after the classic 1980s drifting wonder Corolla Levin AE86, which is also in the game.

Check out the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer shown by Konami at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. If you haven't heard: it's Kojima's concept handed over to Platinum Games Studio, the makers of Bayonetta. The idea was to create a high-speed ninja action game and mix it with "classic Metal Gear elements such as methodical steal infiltration and espionage".

Binary Domain is Sega's upcoming third-person squad based shooter from the creators of the Yakuza and Shenmue series. The game is set in the year 2080 during a robot invasion of Tokyo. While the game features a new setting it does appear to have detailed environments and a deep, intriguing story--a signature of Toshihiro Nagoshi's development team.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was revealed last night at the 2011 Video Game Awards on Spike TV. Some sources labeled the title as a direct sequel to the Metal Gear Solid games, however, this isn't the case. Hideo Kojima cleared it up: "We've only said that the period setting is several years after MGS4. Metal Gear Rising is not part of the Metal Gear Solid series. At present, we can't say more than this. The name change which added "Revengeance" is to help gamers differentiate the title from MGS.
Metal Gear RIsing, which is now a true action title (not stealth), was originally going to feature "slicing". Players could literally chop up background objects. But they've decided to take it even further--now you will be able to slice and dice objects and enemies anywhere and anytime you want. The game is developed by Platinum Games, the team that created Bayonetta.
The official site for the game gives info on the story and setting: "The main character, Raiden, was once feared as the child soldier 'Jack the Ripper' on the front lines of the First Liberian Civil War. Now, his combat mastery is channeled through a cyborg body as the strikes from his high-frequency blade slice even massive assault drones in two. Raiden is contracted for VIP protection, military training and other duties by PMSCs (Private Military and Security Companies) in a developing country piecing itself back together after a bloody civil war. Little does he know that the stage is set for a clash with an enigmatic force of countless cyborgs."
